How to Create a Gift Basket

With an ocassion, gift theme and a budget in mind, creating the perfect gift basket can be easy and fun to put together.

Because they’re entirely customizable, gift baskets are great for so many occasions whether it be for a housewarming, wedding shower, baby shower, holiday or pretty much any other event or occasion. Whether you’re on a $25 budget or a $150 budget, there are a lot of options to creating a really nice and thoughtful gift.

The gift basket idea I created today is perfect for a housewarming or wedding shower gift.

For this basket I went with a “kitchen sink” theme. I include soaps in pretty packaging, floral dish towels and a cute bamboo dish brush that rests in a ceramic dish. The dish toweI also included some cute ceramic bud vases in the shape of houses which would look really cute by the sink, or if you’re lucky to have a window above the sink, placed on the window sill. A fun trinket dish is a great thing to keep by the sink so you can easily place your rings in there when you’re combating dirty dishes. To contain all the items, I chose a wicker basket that can easily be repurposed in a cabinet or on a bookcase. Use one dish towel to blanket the bottom of the basket and the other as the backdrop and to prop up some of the other items.

Here’s an example of a basket I put together using similar products.

When I worked at Crate and Barrel, I spent a lot of time helping customers think through and select gifts that the recipients would truly enjoy. Some people prefer to gift one larger item while others prefer to purchase a variety of small items. Neither option is better than the other, but gift baskets certainly are more fun to put together! It’s a great way to get creative and build a gift that’s unique to the recipient.
