Today’s post is a round up of simple tools to create decluttered and organized kitchen cabinets. Many of these tools would also be of great use in other areas of the home including pantries, bathroom vanities, and linen closets.
Whether you have a large or small kitchen, maximizing space using tools to stay organized makes all the difference. For one, it makes it a lot easier to find things when everything has a specific home in a cabinet and it will also make items much more accessible. Often times items get pushed to the back of cabinets and before you know it you have duplicates and unused, expired food. Not only are you wasting money, you’re also wasting food. So let’s do something about that!
The first step is to take everything out of the cabinets (or pantry or closet) to see what you are working with and to assess what types of organizing tools you’ll need. Remove and throw away any items that have long since expired and, if you have unexpired food (or item) that you don’t like, donate it. Once you’ve narrowed it down to the things you do want to keep, you can start organizing those items with like items together, for example, snack foods as one grouping and canned and jarred foods as another. You can create subgroups as a next step (i.e. soups, jams, tomato sauce).
The use of tiered shelving, clear bins, and pull-out drawers can enable you to quickly see and get access to items in both the front and back of your cabinets. The three tiered shelving unit works great for canned and jarred foods. The clear bins would be great for individual, on-the-go snacks or boxes of rice or pasta. The goal is to keep like items together so it’s quick and easy to find what you are looking for or to take inventory of what you’re running low on.
A shelf is an easy and great way to maximize vertical space. Use shelves for stacking plates, bowls, mugs or ramekins. They are also available in adjustable widths.
For quick access to items I use while cooking on the stove, I placed a turntable into an adjacent cabinet making it super easy to locate and grab the items I need with a gentle spin. I’m also far more likely to put the items back right away, freeing up what little counter space I have in my kitchen.
Rather than stacking baking sheets and large platters, the use of a vertical organizer is a great way to quickly access the item(s) you need without having to empty out the cabinet to get the cookie sheet that tends to find its way to the bottom of the stack every.single.time. The sound of banging pans definitely spikes my blood pressure, so doing anything to avoid that experience is a must in my book.
